About Skye (& Garrett)
Hi, I’m Skye & I’m so glad you’re here!
I’m a Pacific Northwest local and experienced backpacker and climber with a love for adventure travel. Through my outdoorsy travel blog, I’m your guide to all things adventure and ultralight backpacking! I’m here to make your trip planning easier with fully comprehensive guides on trails, international travel, and outdoor gear.
A little more about me, I’m a full-time content creator and adventure photographer with extensive professional experience in the outdoor industry, not only as a mountain athlete, but also in digital marketing, focusing on social media and email marketing. I grew up in the suburbs of Seattle, and will always consider Washington State my home. For the past three years now I have been traveling full-time and living on the road with my husband Garrett, in our self built, tiny campervan. I’m an experienced backpacker, climber, and canyoneer, and I am an alpine climb leader, climbing instructor, and AIARE assistant instructor for The Mountaineers. I love inspiring others to get outside, and outdoor education and advocacy is a huge part of what I post about on my social media (@skyestoury and @theadventurearnolds).
I love working with brands in the outdoor industry and will help your brand reach outdoorsy people across all experience levels. Everyday I get outside to rock climb, backpack, hike, trail run, and canyon. And I love testing out hiking and backpacking gear to share with you on my blog.

Meet Garrett -
My husband, adventure partner, and major contributor to this blog.
Garrett grew up in North Idaho, but has lived in multiple states across the US. He has always had a love for the outdoors and has a background as a field ecologist (he worked in both Alaska and South Africa), and also as an outdoor guide and an ecology instructor for a study abroad company. In terms of outdoor experience, Garrett has been backpacking and rock climbing for years, and is a very experienced international traveler. He is currently a volunteer climb leader, climbing instructor, and assistant AIARE instructor for The Mountaineers, with me.
We met on an alpine climb with The Mountaineers when we were both in the Basic Alpine Climbing Course, and then started dating months later. Our first date was a 12 hour day of snowshoeing up at Mount Baker, and we’ve been adventuring ever since. In 2023, Garrett proposed on a backpacking trip to Mount Assiniboine, and we got married in August of 2024 on the summit of Liberty Bell (a technical alpine climb) in the North Cascades.
Garrett helps with gear testing (tests all the men’s gear and clothing that we include in guides), travel guides, and videography. We run my blog together, as well as our couple Instagram account @theadventurearnolds

Our Story
-

2017 - We First Met in the Mountains
We were both in the Basic Alpine Climbing Course with The Mountaineers and met on an alpine climb of Sahale Peak in the North Cascades. Our first date was snowshoeing at Artist Point, near Mount Baker about six months later, and we’ve been together ever since. -

2018 - Learned Advanced Climbing Skills
We took the Intermediate Alpine Climbing Course through The Mountaineers (a year long course focusing on advanced alpine rock, ice, and mountaineering skills), learning to lead trad multipitch climbs, advanced glacier travel, and rescue techniques. That summer we climbed a ton of alpine peaks together, including Mount Rainier. -

2019 - We Got Our Van & Built it Out
In October, we purchased and built out our van for weekend and week-long roadtrips trips. We continued to build it out in 2020 while living in Seattle, and took it on a lot of adventures. It was supposed to just be our “starter van” but we ended up keeping it and live out of it today. -

2023 - Quit Our Jobs to Travel
After several years of saving up, we quit our full-time (corporate & nonprofit) jobs to take a year off of work to travel and adventure. That February we flew to Patagonia where we spent over a month hiking and backpacking in Chile and Argentina. -

Spring 2023 - Moved into the Van
Once we returned from South America, we moved into our van full-time and spent the next 10 months vanlifing around the Western US and Canada. During this time we explored California, Colorado, Wyoming, Utah, and Arizona for climbing, hiking, and canyoning. -

Fall 2023 - We Got Engaged
Garrett proposed on a backpacking trip with friends at Mount Assiniboine in the Canadian Rockies. We spent fall in Canada for larch season, and then headed down to California for time climbing in Yosemite and the Southwest. -

2024 - Year Two of Full-Time Travel
We planned for just one year, but we were making it work with our budget and decided to keep going for another year. We started with two months in Europe climbing in Spain, hiking in Madeira, and then came back to the van for another tour of the Western states and more time in Canada. -

August 2024 - We Got Married
After spring in the Southwest, we headed back "home" to Washington for summer, and got married on the summit of Liberty Bell in the North Cascades (a technical alpine rock climb). We turned it into a two day climb, sleeping on the summit to get married at sunrise. -

2025 - Four Months in SE Asia
We took a 4 month long honeymoon traveling, climbing, and scuba diving in SE Asia. We spent a month in Southern Thailand, 2 weeks in Vietnam, several weeks in Malaysia, and 2 months in Indonesia on Bali and Gili T. -
Summer 2025 - PNW Adventures
We returned to the US in the spring and spent time in Washington and BC for most of spring, summer. During that time we climbed Washington’s most remote volcano, Glacier Peak. We then spent the summer backpacking and climbing in the North Cascades and Squamish & Whister, BC. -

Fall & Winter 2025 - Banff & Washington
Back to Banff and the Canadian Rockies for our third fall there. We backpacked to Berg Lake and did a lot of larch hikes. Then we headed back to Washington for our Core Enchantments backpacking permits where we climbed Prusik Peak during larch season. After fall, we decided to stay around for winter and spent time in the PNW for skiing and house sitting. -

Early 2026 - Squamish, Washington, Oregon
From January through March, we did long term house sits in Washington, Squamish, and Oregon so we could be out of the van and get to ski at Mount Baker, Whistler, and Mount Hood. Next up we are heading back down to the desert for spring climbing season!
